Artist Statement
As humans, we are formed by our surroundings and what is on our minds constantly. This is why I greatly get inspired by ideas in regards to society, objects, locations, time and people; both my design and overall work will include any of these factors. Personally, my own identity has been formed by key moments of change within those areas and the response of my thoughts on those moments. I enjoy how design can bring attention to these ideas in the literal form of typography and how illustration can show it visually; both integrate into my work in that manner.
When it comes to design, I enjoy to share information in an engaging way. This does not imply playfulness. Rather, I believe design is more than entertaining advertisement work. Design can be experimental, amusing and even challenging. My job as a designer is not to comfort to trends and come out with pretty stuff, but to use design as a tool to understand the communication complexities of the world more effectively. I believe there is not a superior or more effective way of doing design. Instead, good design work is one that belongs and communicates the theme you are going for in the best of its abilities.
Tied to my design work there is digital illustration work as well. In my illustrations, I usually enjoy to explore the realms of the human experience through the passage of moments. This translates visually into my work by displaying characters surrounded by various environments or symbolic objects; a meaningful instant that appears frozen in time. This with the purpose of being aware of the passing moment, which we often ignore due to its fleeting nature.
